Dieting And Willpower

I have gained a few pounds and decided about a month ago to lose some of this weight. Of course I got the customary, You look great or the You don't need to lose weight lies. Its all well meaning crap. I know when my jeans are to tight. Or when my blouse buttons are about to pop.

So I have been watching the calories and sodium intake. I have also cut cola's and sugar out.

But what really grips me is that I can go all year without an invite to go out to eat and just when I decide to cut the calories everyone wants my company for dinner, breakfast, or lunch. Its crazy. You cannot have the salad bar for breakfast. I sometimes get the feeling that my well intentioned friends and family are doing all this inviting because they think maybe I'm dieting because I can't afford to eat....geez

And dieting takes a lot of willpower. For me it is a very solitary thing. I cannot go out to eat because I always end up having that piece of cake or pie. Why do you have to have dessert at a restaurant when you know you wouldn't have one at home.

I mentioned that I haven't had a cola for 1 month. I still haven't but every time I open my refrigerator now I have caffeine free Pepsi staring at me. The other night my well intentioned daughter brought me a case of them over. Not a 12 pack but a whole case. I have no idea why she would do this to me. I think that again people are under the impression that I'm not drinking these because I can't afford them or something.

Getting through a diet is hard and giving up things you love to drink or eat is horrible. But a lot of times you have to make choices and give things up to become a healthier you. That's what I want is to lose another 7 pounds to become a healthier me. Giving up the things that have helped me gain the weight despite my family and friends is a challenge. It takes a lot of willpower, not only for me but for anyone who has well meaning friends and family that think having a refrigerator full of pop does no drive you crazy. Or dropping by with your favorite candybar doesn't make you want to pull your hair out. It really drives you nuts to have to smile and say, No thanks.

Well now that I have this off my chest. The good news is I did manage to lose 3 pounds in one month. I need more willpower. But then again I am over 50 and it takes us old folks longer to lose weight. So my goal next month is eat out less and lose 4 pounds.
